GRANDE
PRAIRIE, ALBERTA (October 6th, 2010)
– Thanks to a hot start to the season that included seven
straight podium finishes, 19 year-old Jamie Krzysik won the
2010 IMCA Modified Canadian Championship.
Krzysik
wrapped up the title September 25th at Edmonton International
Raceway by finishing fifth. The top-five finish put Krzysik
in a dead heat with Mike Clark, with Krzysik being awarded the
tie-breaker on the strength of four feature wins in 2010.
The
Grande Prairie, Alberta resident is a member of the Ron
Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development program based in
Sacramento, Calif. He made his way into the program after
winning IMCA Rookie of the Year in 2009.
After
having engine failure knock Krzysik out on the September 11
race, Krzysik competed with a barrowed motor for this
weekend’s races.
Krzysik
qualified seventh but won one of the heat races and finished
fourth in the other.
Starting
fifth in the feature, Krzysik saw his chances for a race win
slip away as the entire field checked up. Krzysik made
contact with the car in front of him, knocking the tow out and
making handling difficult.
Krzysik
drove a fine race for the rest of the 40 lap feature to hang
on to fifth place and earn the championship.
“Jamie
did an excellent job winning the National title,” said driver
coach Ron Sutton. “This was a big season for Jamie’s
development as he also ran well in the USAC Ford Focus
Midgets. Jamie has a ton of potential and we are excited to
be working with him!”
Krzysik’s stats for 2010 included 16 starts with three
fast-times, four wins, 12 top-fives, and 15 top-tens. He made
four starts in California in the USAC Ford Focus Midget Series
with a best finish of sixth at All American Speedway, just
outside Sacramento, CA, in August.
